- Objective I: The innovative methods for urban development, urban redevelopment and town planning demonstrated by way of example in the projects have an influence on policy and practical decisions, which determine the development of Swiss cities.
- Objective II: The process expertise gained from interdisciplinary cooperation is available for similar research projects as well as for training and further training.
- Objective III: The research results are prepared and put into context, so that sustainable recom-mendations and procedures for future urban design, for integrated urban development, urban redevelopment and the design of urban districts can be presented at an early stage at cooperative forums in the form of a model (partly under the guidance of NRP or individual research projects).
- Goal IV: Scientific discussion about making the results of the research available in the appropriate language and form and at the right time and place is encouraged.
In terms of knowledge transfer, the orientation of NRP 65 suggests concentrating on the one hand on policy-makers and those invovled in the practical processes and on the other hand on target audiences from science and research. In terms of policy and practice, the players who are active in policy design and in political decision-making processes as well as in their implementation on all levels of Swiss community life (federal state, canton, cities) are addressed. In terms of science, this concerns primarily the institutions of higher education in Switzerland. In this process, the exchange of results of the NRP 65 should strengthen research. Furthermore, the results should be taken into account in the design of teaching and training courses.
At the same time, public and private investors should also be involved, as their decisions influence the urban quality of cities. Planning and architecture offices will also be considered for certain results, as well as a wide range of professional, class and interest groups who are able to contribute to a new urban quality of cities.
The starting point, and therefore the backbone, of knowledge transfer is a series of events which is accompanied by a series of publications. Furthermore, opportunities should be used which arise in the course of the programme through contacts to stakeholders and in particular from the cooperation between research projects. Correspondingly, transfer of knowledge is directed towards the following main areas:
- Three events with publications: autumn 2011, summer 2012 and summer 2013;
- Encouragement of knowledge exchange between researchers and development and distribution of process know-how;
- Cooperation and platforms, e.g. with the Schweizerische Vereinigung für Landesplanung (VLP-ASPAN) [Swiss Association for Country Planning or the urban development association];
- Products publicising the results for the most important stakeholders and a final event at the end of 2014.
